Is there really anything better than spending an evening with your ladies? Get-togethers may look a little bit different lately, but that does not mean you can’t put together a perfect night to enjoy with a couple of your besties. We are taking everything you loved about slumber parties as a kid and updating them with an adult twist that you’ll love. Make sure that the following four areas are covered and get ready to make this a night to remember for you and your girls.
1 Get Snackin’
If you are anything like my friends and I, what you munch on is one of the most important parts of a successful girls’ night. You will want to make sure that you have a selection of nibbles on hand to keep everyone satisfied throughout the night, including salty snacks and sweet treats. Of course, when it comes to girls’ night snacks, a charcuterie board is one of the easiest and most impressive options you can throw together. Start off with a selection of cheeses that vary in texture and flavour; include a variety of hard and soft picks that range from mild to sharp in flavour. If you are unsure of where to start, try picking up a delicious brie, a sharp, aged cheddar, a tangy Parmigiano Reggiano, and a soft goat cheese.
Once you have laid the foundation with a few different cheeses, you can build the rest of your board. Fill in the gaps with things that enhance the flavour of the cheese, like crackers, cured meats, fruit, nuts, and spreads (honey is a must!). You will be able to easily customize the board to suit everyone’s tastes; try experimenting with different flavour combinations and add-ons!
2 Drink Up
While you can never go wrong with a little bubbly (try Pelee Island’s LOLA Blush Sparkling Rosé for one you and your gals will love), it never hurts to add in a fun signature cocktail or two! Classics like cosmos and French 75s are always winners.
Want to make things even easier? Put together a drink you can make in a batch, like sangria. It will let you spend less time playing bartender and more time catching up with your besties. For a quick batch, combine a 750ml bottle of Spanish red wine, 1/3 cup of Grand Marnier or other orange liqueur, 1/3 cup of peach schnapps and 2/3 cup of orange juice in a pitcher. Stir in slices of lemon, lime, and orange. Top each glass with ginger ale and garnish with remaining citrus slices before serving. Looking for a mocktail version? Swap the alcohol out for a few different fruit juices!
3 Set the Mood
Now that you have your food and drinks for the evening taken care of, it’s time to set the scene. You’ll want to turn your spot for the evening into the perfect oasis, whether you’re inside hanging out in the living room or spending some time outside under the stars. A few easy touches will really help to set the tone for the night.
A couple of quick décor adjustments will set you up for the perfect relaxing evening. Take a page from the boho lifestyle to make your space gorgeous; string lights add a beautiful glow to everything and piles of fun, tasseled pillows are perfect for lounging on while you chat and sip away. Finish everything off with some fresh flowers and accessories like cute glassware, chic napkins, and fun, reusable straws.
4 Have Some Fun
So, what’s left? A little bit of entertainment! Start off by picking the perfect tunes for the evening. Bonus points for selecting a playlist you can all sing along to! Spotify has a ton of different playlists available to suit your mood and the setting. Get into a little girl power or relive the early 2000s with some pop hits that you’ll know all the words to.
If you’re ready to get a little silly and spill some secrets, adult party games are an absolute must! Games like For The Girls and Never Have I Ever (Girl’s Edition) are the perfect way to get the party started and have some fun. Make sure you grab an Instax Mini or other instant camera to capture all the memories and fun moments. Keep these four elements in mind when planning your next girls’ night in and you will end up with a night full of laughs that you’ll always remember. Time to pop the bubbly!
Dee Thompson: I started Liner and Glitter and Gloss, Oh My! in Nomber 2011 as a way to tap into my passion for the world of beauty and writing. I saw this as a creative outlet to explore this world more and have been delving deeper and deeper ever since. Since the creation of this blog, I’ve had opportunities to work with some amazing brands, meet fab people and experience a different side of Toronto.
Over the past few years, my interests have broadened and I wanted to change the blog to reflect my passions and to share more of my life with you. In 2019, Liner and Glitter and Gloss, Oh My! became A Dash of Dee, a rebrand that allowed me to continue to share my beauty tips & tricks along with more of a focus on travel, lifestyle and food & drink. My goal is to show you a different side of me and bring you along on my journeys, whether that be discovering a new skincare favourite or sharing an exciting destination.
I’ve been an ambassador for brands like Viviscal, Bramalea City Centre, Dixie Outlet Mall, Matrix, LG, Viviscal, and Refresh Botanicals and have been able to work with some of my favourite brands over the years.
I may not be a makeup artist or professional in the industry, but I consider myself to be an “at-home-expert.” What does that mean? I have a huge love for anything beauty-related and have spent years playing and experimenting with different products and looks. Along the way, I’ve developed knowledge in this area and have picked up many tricks that I wanted to share with others. This blog is my outlet and my way of sharing what I know, what I learn and all of my experiences with you. I hope you have a chance to look around and will follow me on this journey. If you ever have any questions or want to know or see anything on here, please feel free to get in touch with me. I love hearing from my readers and will do my best to help you find what you need to know! www.dashofdee.com
